Apple may introduce its own 5G modem in iPhone SE 4

Apple is likely planning to introduce its own 5G modem in the new iPhone SE 4, which will reduce its dependence on Qualcomm. The company has been working on this goal for a long time and acquired Intel's modem division in 2019.

Here's What We Know

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple's plans for an internal modem are actively progressing. It is expected that next year Apple will ship 35-40 million devices with its own 5G modem, and by 2027, this figure will increase to 160-180 million units. This could have a significant impact on Qualcomm's revenue.

Kuo also noted that in 2025, Apple plans to launch two new iPhones with its own modem, including the iPhone SE 4 and the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air.

The modem will be integrated with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips, which can improve battery efficiency and life. Apple's licence agreement with Qualcomm is valid until March 2027, but the development of its own modem could lead to a decline in sales of Qualcomm chips.
