Sony has officially unveiled the PlayStation 5 Pro: the console will offer improved ray tracing, a powerful processor and 2TB of inbuilt memory

Finally, Sony has officially unveiled the console that has been rumoured for several years.

Chief engineer of the gaming division of the Japanese corporation Mark Cerny presented the PlayStation 5 Pro and talked about its features and advantages.

Here's What We Know

At the beginning of the broadcast Mark Cerny reminded about the main features of the basic model of PS5 and emphasised that game developers have always wanted to get more power on this console to implement all their ideas.

It goes without saying that more technical information about the new console will emerge over time, but for now Cerny stated that the PS5 Pro's processor is 67% more powerful than the base model. RAM has been accelerated by 25 per cent, from 448GB per second to 576GB per second, and that figure could be even higher.

Rendering quality has been increased by 45%, with the PS5 Pro supporting Wi-Fi 7, VRR and resolutions up to 8K. The inbuilt storage capacity is 2TB.

And also, as reported by insiders, a removable disc drive can be attached to the PS5 Pro.

One of the main features of the PS5 Pro will be an AI-based image scaling technology called PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution Upscaling), which will maximise graphics without significantly increasing the load on the console.

Mark Cerny emphasised that 75% of gamers prefer to play on PS5 in enhanced performance mode rather than enhanced graphics, so this is the aspect that Sony engineers are focusing on.

Another major feature of the PS5 Pro will be the vastly improved ray tracing.

The broadcast showed a performance comparison of some top games on PS5 and PS5 Pro, and using The Last of Us: Part II, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart as examples, we can see that the new console really delivers great graphics at consistently high frame rates.

As for the DualSense gamepad, it is completely identical to the last model.

The PS5 Pro has a Game Boost feature that will further improve the performance and graphics quality of different PS5 and PS4 games (backwards compatibility). Some PS4 games will have increased resolution.

When We Can Expect It

The PS5 Pro console will go on sale on 7 November at a price of $700/€800.

Pre-orders will start on 26 September.
