Ukraine receives experimental 105 mm Hawkeye howitzer on HMMWV M1152 chassis
The Armed Forces of Ukraine received experimental American Hawkeye howitzers.
Here's What We Know
A photo of the howitzer in the hands of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was shared by the Telegram channel @TyskNIP. This is a 105 mm gun built on the HMMWV M1152 chassis. It is currently unknown how many of these self-propelled guns have been delivered to Ukraine.
The Hawkeye was developed by AM General in cooperation with Mandus Group. It is based on the M20 105 mm gun. The artillery system has a Soft Recoil system to reduce the load and stabilise the structure, an M137A2 sight, MG 9000 digital system, Northrop Grumman's LN-270 inertial navigation system and a Sensor Systems GPS antenna. The maximum range of conventional and rocket-propelled grenades is approximately 12 km and 20 km, respectively.
The gun's location on the HMMWV vehicle ensures high mobility of the howitzer system. The CT-2 Hawkeye's low weight and relatively compact overall dimensions allow it to be transported by helicopter on slings.
