War changes everything: Xbox announced War Game: The Making of Stalker 2, a documentary about the game's difficult development in a real-life combat environment
February 2022 completely changed the lives of Ukrainians.
The full-scale invasion of Russia, accompanied by a huge number of war crimes, rocket attacks on civilian infrastructure and real terror of civilians, affected every citizen of Ukraine.
At this time, the studio GSC Game World was working on the creation of the shooter S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl and in the conditions of war it became a difficult task.
Here's What We Know
Xbox and GSC Game World announced a documentary film War Game: The Making of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, in which the developers will tell about the terrible experience of working in the conditions of war, when in Kyiv flew missiles, and on the outskirts of the capital of Ukraine was fierce fighting.
Later, the developers decided to move the studio to Prague, but the horror of the war, like every resident of Ukraine, remained in their memory for the rest of their lives.
In the trailer of the documentary, one of the developers succinctly characterised the working conditions of that time: "... we were simultaneously working on reloading weapons in the game and learning how to use real weapons to defend ourselves and our country".
The film will feature not only the Ukrainian developers' stories about their personal experience, but will also show real footage of the war, in which Ukraine has been living and fighting for almost 1000 days.
Maria Grigorovich, Creative Director of GSC Game World studio, commented on the idea of making the film as follows:
It was scary to agree to the proposal from Xbox to create the film. We are not public people, and it's not easy to share personal things. However, we decided that it is important to show the world how difficult it is to live during the war.
Recall, defending Ukraine, died and one of the developers of the original game S.T.A.L.K.E.R.. - Vladimir "Fresh" Yezhov (Volodymyr Yezhov).
The film War Game: The Making of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will be released on 3 October on the Xbox channel.
