Garmin introduces inReach Messenger Plus autonomous communication satellite with support for graphic and voice messages

Garmin has introduced a new inReach Messenger Plus satellite communicator, the first in the inReach series, which supports photo and voice messaging without the need for cellular service.

Here's What We Know

The new product also allows you to send text messages, regular location updates and use the SOS function.

The InReach Messenger Plus stands out from similar devices due to the ability to send non-text messages via the satellite network. According to Garmin, the device is IPX7 waterproof and has a battery life of up to 600 hours with regular location updates every 10 minutes.

Here's How It Works

To send photo and voice messages, you need to pair Messenger Plus with your smartphone using a special app. After that, the message can be sent directly to Garmin Response, an international emergency coordination centre. It is also possible to include GPS coordinates in the message.

The price of inReach Messenger Plus is USD 499.99 on the Garmin website, and a monthly subscription is required to use the satellite services, starting at USD 14.99. For comparison, the Mini 2's predecessor currently costs $359.79 on Amazon.
