Russia claims to have shot down new Ukrainian drone 'Palianytsia'
Russian occupants in Kursk region shot down an unknown drone of rather impressive size, with a jet engine and a 100 kg warhead.
Here's What We Know
The Russians claimed that they had shot down a new Ukrainian jet UAV, the Palianytsia, which they called a "missile drone". As evidence, they published the wreckage of the drone, which they claimed was 3.5 x 2.5 metres.
The wreckage itself was damaged and at the time of publication, Russian sources did not report finding any markings.
The Russian Federation also reported that the speed of the aircraft was approximately 400-500 km/h. It was carrying about 100 kg of warhead and was supposed to fly 400-700 km into Russia.
It is worth noting that the only reason the occupiers identified the Palyanytsia was the turbojet engine of an unidentified brand.
The photos show that the fuselage is made of carbon fibre, which is commonly used in drones. Although it is difficult to determine the exact shape of the fuselage, it appears to be a wing-like structure. That is, it is not the classic mid-air aerodynamic design that was depicted in the official renders of the Palyanytsia.
