The US plans to announce a large package of military aid to Ukraine, but the deliveries will be delayed
The United States is to announce a major arms package for Ukraine next week, but according to two US officials, the delivery of the equipment will be delayed due to a shortage of supplies.
Here's What We Know
The Pentagon has previously reported that they have $5.9bn left over that they can spend in the coming weeks, as the US fiscal year is about to end.
So, the Pentagon can use this money to draw directly from US stockpiles to send to Ukraine, which is how the US has delivered most of the weapons and equipment it has provided to Kyiv.
The new package will be significantly larger than the previous ones, which averaged about $200 million. The package is expected to include air defence systems, artillery and other ammunition.
CNN explained that the US has recently been giving smaller packages to Ukraine as the Pentagon's own arms stockpile has dwindled. But now that the funds to help Ukraine are expiring, the US may change its strategy - the aid packages will be larger, but will take months to deliver.
