The company of Jony Ive, ex-Apple designer, has developed MagSafe for buttons
LoveFrom, founded by ex-Apple designer Jony Ive, has developed a new product for the Italian luxury clothing brand Moncler.
Here's What We Know
It is a three-in-one jacket, which will go on sale on 24 September after four years of joint development.
The jacket is based on the Moncore vest filled with down. Over this warm base, you can wear a field jacket, parka or hooded poncho. The main body of each layer is made from a single, uncut piece of recycled nylon that is carefully folded to create a seamless kimono-like shape. To create this garment, a 2-metre loom was needed, which is usually used to make bed linen.
The main feature of the collection is one of its smallest details - new "duo buttons" that fasten with magnets. When you touch the button, it is absolutely solid, but the inner ring hides another function that cannot be recognised by touch. The other half of the button is on the shell. It is shaped like a small donut. When the "doughnut" lands on the base, a "magic trick" takes place. Two magnets inside pull a piston out of the button base, which fills the hole and connects the two parts with a pleasant click.
When the button is attached, it is impossible to undo it, because the button has become a push button. You simply press the central piston that appears in the middle of the donut and only then does it come undone. In fact, it's an analogue of MagSafe for iPhone, but with a more sophisticated attachment.
By the way, LoveFrom even had to tweak the sound of the "duo buttons" to make sure that the combination of bronze, aluminium, and steel sounds good when they come together.
