In September 2022, a hacker obtained data on Grand Theft Auto VI through a phishing email sent to a Rockstar India employee

In mid-September 2022, gameplay footage and the Grand Theft Auto VI code were published, which became a real shock not only for Rockstar but also for the entire gaming industry. And after 2 years, it became known how this leak happened in the first place.

Here's What We Know

The author of the morsmutual YouTube channel said that the attacker tricked a Rockstar India employee with a phishing email while he was working at home. Following the email, which contained a link that gave access to the person's data, the hacker got into Slack channels (a corporate messenger), where the game data was located.

Rockstar still plans to release GTA VI in autumn 2025 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series.
