Apple plans to develop a budget version of Vision Pro with lower resolution displays

Apple is considering using lower-resolution displays for a more affordable version of its Vision Pro headset.

Here's What We Know

Apple has received samples of OLED displays from Japan Display (JDI) with a pixel density of approximately 1500 PPI. This is much less than the 3391 PPI used in the current Vision Pro model, which costs from $3500.

Reducing pixel density can significantly reduce production costs while maintaining high image quality. It is known that Apple is requesting information from manufacturers such as Samsung Display and LG Display about OLED displays with a density of about 1700 PPI.

Currently, the development of the new headset is at an early stage, and DigiTimes predicts that it could hit the market in two to three years.

According to the analysts, the cheaper Vision Pro may require connectivity to an iPhone or Mac. Competition between display makers for Apple's orders is only growing as companies from South Korea, Japan and Taiwan seek a share of this lucrative contract.
