US transfers JSOW bombs to Ukraine for F-16s, they can hit targets up to 110km away
The US recently announced a new $375 million military aid package for the AFU. As it turned out, it included AGM-154 Joint Standoff Weapon (JSOW) aircraft bombs.
Here's What We Know
This was reported by the American edition of ABC News. The AFU is likely to use the aerial bombs with F-16 fighter jets.
JSOW are a series of medium-range guided aerial bombs developed by Raytheon for the armed forces of the United States and its allies.
The main purpose of JSOWs is to destroy fortified objects, moving targets, and air defences at long ranges, allowing the carrier aircraft to avoid the range of enemy air defence systems. The JSOW has a maximum range of 110 kilometres.
JSOW modifications are equipped with different warheads, including fragmentation and penetrator bombs. The bombs are compatible with different aircraft. For example, F-16, F-35 and F/A-18.
