Apple Watch receives Canadian approval for sleep apnea detection

Apple has received approval from Health Canada for the sleep apnoea alert feature on its Apple Watch.

Here's What We Know

This follows earlier approval from the FDA in the United States. Users in Canada will now be able to take advantage of the new sleep apnoea detection capabilities on the Apple Watch Series 10, Series 9, and Ultra 2 models.

Sleep apnoea detection uses the accelerometer to detect small movements of the wrist associated with sleep apnoea. Every 30 days, the watch will analyse the data and alert users if it detects signs of moderate or severe sleep apnoea. This gives you the opportunity to discuss further action with your doctor, including possible diagnosis and treatment.

Sleep apnoea affects more than 1 billion people worldwide and prevents them from getting enough oxygen during sleep. Undetected sleep apnoea can lead to serious health problems, including an increased risk of hypertension and type 2 diabetes.

Apple promises that the new notifications will be available in more than 150 countries this month.
