Square Enix didn't want its characters to appear in Astro Bot, but we won't know the reasons for this decision

Astro Bot features cameos by many iconic characters. Some of them don't even belong to PlayStation Studios, but you won't find any characters that belong to Square Enix in the game.

Here's What We Know

Team Asobi studio head Nicolas Doucet said that most of Sony's partners immediately agreed to add their characters to Astro Bot as cameos.

But you won't see characters from Kingdom Hearts, Dragon Quest, or Final Fantasy VII. And out of respect for Square Enix, Nicolas refused to say the exact reasons why.

It's hard to comment on why Square Enix didn't approve the cameo. However, we do respect the choice of each publisher

We can only guess why SE did not want its characters to appear in Astro Bot. But as they say: "We have what we have."

We would like toremind you that Astro Bot will receive free DLC with new speedrun levels and VIP bots in autumn.
