Sony and Raspberry Pi unveiled a camera with AI processing without the help of additional GPUs

Raspberry Pi and Sony have jointly developed a new Raspberry Pi AI camera module that can handle artificial intelligence tasks without additional graphics chips.

Here's What We Know

The camera features a Sony IMX500 image sensor that processes data using artificial intelligence, allowing users to create peripheral AI solutions to process visual data. The camera is compatible with all Raspberry Pi single board computers and requires no additional accelerators or GPUs.

The new AI camera has a resolution of 12.3 megapixels and can capture video at 10 frames per second at 4056 x 3040 resolution or 40 frames per second at 2028 x 1520 resolution. The camera also features manual focus adjustment and has a 76-degree field of view.

Raspberry Pi CEO Eben Upton said that AI-based image processing is becoming an important tool for developers around the world and hoped that the Raspberry Pi community can reach new heights with this camera.

The Raspberry Pi AI module is already available for sale at a price of $70.
