Another test of the XQ-58A Valkyrie artificial intelligence drone took place in Florida.

Here's What We Know

This time Kratos Defence & Security Solutions and the US Marine Corps tested the new Link-16 communication technology, which significantly expands the capabilities of combat interaction and operational control in the complex conditions of real military operations.

The tests were successful and the XQ-58A Valkyrie has been cleared to participate in the major Emerald Flag 2024 exercise to be held in October. The unmanned aerial vehicle should show the importance and prospects of modern technologies aimed at improving the effectiveness of interaction between different types of troops in joint operations.

Experts see the great potential of the XQ-58A and believe that such drones can change the concept of modern warfare and reduce the number of human losses, as the most dangerous tasks can be performed by high-tech equipment controlled by people remotely or with the help of AI.

The XQ-58A has a speed of 7 MAH and a range of 3,000 miles (4,800 kilometres). At the moment, the cost per unit is $4 million (which is lower than some missiles, though), but Kratos Defence & Security Solutions aims to bring the cost of the Valkyrie down to $2 million.
