Lithuania buys "smart" mines that can stop Russian tanks
The Lithuanian Armed Forces have received the first batch of autonomous anti-tank mines capable of distinguishing between enemy and friendly forces.
Here's What We Know
The next-generation Sentry mines were purchased from Finnish company Forcit Defence for €5.9 million in preparation for a potential Russian invasion.
A press release from the Lithuanian Ministry of Defence states that the mines combine "an advanced encrypted mesh network and target penetration power".
They are also "designed to preserve the mobility of allied forces by temporarily or completely deactivating them, if necessary".
"The equipment recognises and identifies enemy targets and autonomously sets the detonation time, thus causing maximum damage to enemy equipment."
