Samsung plans to add SmartHub to all home devices with a screen, including microwaves and washing machines

During the SDC 2024 software developer conference, Samsung's CEO of the Device Division, Jong-Hee Han, announced that the company plans to add a smart home hub to all household devices with a screen. This includes microwaves and washing machines.

What it means for the market

Samsung is working hard to lead the world in home appliances and make them more technologically advanced than the competition, thanks, of course, to the use of artificial intelligence. The addition of components such as colour displays, processors and wireless communication modules will certainly increase the cost of appliances - they will become not only smarter, but also more expensive than previous models. We have seen similar processes in the smartphone market, where flagship models have been getting more expensive every year and have long since crossed the $1,000 mark.

However, this does not mean that all new Samsung consumer devices will increase in price - usually such statements apply only to advanced models, the manufacturer will still keep budget-level devices with a minimum amount of electronics in its line-up to maintain market share.

What else was discussed at SDC 2024

Samsung's vision for the use of artificial intelligence in consumer devices will develop in 4 directions:

    • Security - for example, the TV will accept voice commands only from family members and ignore the voices of guests (voice recognition will reach a new level of quality). And when you transfer the TV to another user, all personal settings will be deleted automatically.
  • Personalisation - lighting and climate control equipment will track the movements of family members and create conditions in the room according to individual preferences.
  • Family care - devices will monitor the health of family members (sleep, blood pressure, help plan healthy meals) and allow you to remotely send information about elderly parents and children.
  • Business opportunities - the company will also pay attention to the needs of businesses and offer its smart devices for hotels, shops or offices. Taking into account the specific needs of these businesses, including the convenient administration of all devices through the SmartThings Pro ecosystem.
