Insider: Apple has abandoned the idea of releasing its own smart rings and scrapped their development
According to media reports from early 2024, Apple was making preparations to produce its own smart rings, which were thought to help users not only monitor their vital signs but also control other company devices.
But it looks like such gadgets won't be coming to the market after all.
Here's What We Know
Authoritative insider and Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman in a recent Power On newsletter reported that Apple has abandoned the idea of producing and selling its own rings.
According to Gurman, the company has conducted a comprehensive analysis of the market and concluded that at this point it is not advisable to enter the segment of smart rings, as interest in them is caused by a small number of users. Apple will continue to produce smartwatches and develop this particular direction.
Probably, the decision is also due to the fact that the functionality of smart rings is almost completely identical to smart watches, but such devices cost much cheaper and will not bring significant profit.
In general, Apple sees the future in smartwatches, although it can not be ignored that the new Galaxy Ring from Samsung is very popular.
