Google is experimenting with a button to call the AI directly from the Android lock screen

Google is testing a new artificial intelligence (AI) button on the Android lock screen.

Here's What We Know

This button, located below the fingerprint scanner, does not perform any functions yet. It is expected to be linked to the Gemini assistant in the future, which is part of Google's generative AI strategy.

Currently, Gemini can be accessed via a long press of the power button, the home button or voice commands. Android 15 QPR1 Beta 2 hides a flag that activates this button, but its purpose is still unclear. Perhaps it is meant for testing new AI features that will appear in Android 16.

Android 16 is expected to be released in the second quarter of next year and will offer significant interface changes and new AI features. Placing the AI button on the lock screen could make accessing these features more convenient, but it could also clutter up the lock screen.
