Azerbaijan begins large-scale modernisation of Soviet weapons

At ADEX 2024, Azerbaijan presented a lot of Soviet-designed equipment, which is currently undergoing a deep modernisation with the participation of both domestic and foreign companies.

Local firm Sumgait Technologies Park has partnered with the Czech Czechoslovak Group to modernise 23 Soviet ZSU-23-4 Shilka anti-aircraft guns currently in service with the Azerbaijani armed forces.

The weapon is now equipped with a new radar station capable of simultaneously tracking up to 100 targets at a maximum distance of 20 km.

Another outdated weapon that has undergone a major upgrade is the Osa anti-aircraft missile system.

The system is now capable of detecting fighter aircraft targets at a maximum distance of 60 km, which is an improvement over the previous version's operational range of 45 km.

The upgraded Wasp can also simultaneously track 150 targets at an altitude not exceeding 6,000 metres. In addition, the weapon has been equipped with an optoelectronic infrared system for automatic visual tracking of air targets even in low light conditions.
