September was the deadliest for the Russian army in the war - The Telegraph

In September, Russia suffered its biggest losses at the front since the start of the full-scale invasion. Average losses per day exceeded a thousand soldiers.

Here's What We Know

The Telegraph, citing British intelligence, said that the average loss of the Russian army had increased to 1,271 soldiers killed or seriously wounded per day.

Previously, the highest daily losses among the Russian military were recorded in May, when an average of 1,262 soldiers were killed or wounded daily.

September was the fifth month in a row when the Russian army's losses exceeded 1,000 people a day.

Analysts explain the high level of Russian military casualties by the fact that Russia uses tactics of mass infantry attacks known as "meat waves" (or assaults), when a large number of troops rush to storm Ukrainian positions.

According to the UK Ministry of Defence, since the invasion in February 2022, Russia has lost nearly 650,000 soldiers, including the seriously wounded.

Its losses averaged between 172 and 559 per day in 2022, before peaking at 967 in 2023.
