Tesla has unveiled Cybercab, a fully autonomous robotaxi for two passengers (video)
Tesla unveiled a fully autonomous Cybercab robotaxi as part of its "We, Robot" event.
Here's What We Know
This is the company's first fully unmanned vehicle designed to carry no more than two passengers.
The Cybercab's design is similar to the Cybertruck - made in the same futuristic style.
Inside the cabin there is no steering wheel or pedals, but there is a touchscreen display, which displays information about the trip and provides several entertainment applications. As previously reported, the car's doors open in an "gull wing" fashion - upwards.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk states that a ride on the Cybercab robotaxi will be ten times safer than using traditional cars with a driver.
Notably, the Cybercab will not have a charger, and recharging is done inductively.
Musk said Cybercab services will cost just $0.20 per mile (1.6km), compared to $1 per mile on public transport
Tesla will need time to approve the appearance of such transport on city streets. It is stated that the first on the list of states where the company intends to launch fully autonomous driving will be Texas and California - this will happen in 2025.
The company plans to start full production of Cybercab in 2026, but it is possible that it will start later - in 2027.
According to preliminary estimates, the cost of the Cybercab robotaxi from Tesla will not exceed $ 30,000.
