Russia has imported more than 300 machines for the production of weapons and artillery ammunition from Germany, despite the fact that it is under sanctions.

Here's What We Know

Tagesschau, citing a study by Südwestrundfunk, explained that in 2023, Russia managed to import equipment that can be used to produce military equipment, ammunition, guns and other weapons.

In total, Russians imported products from more than 30 German manufacturers, which were supplied to Russia through third countries, most of them through Turkey.

According to the publication, modern CNC (computer numerical control) machines are used by companies such as Parsek, Kamaz, NIR and Industrial Solutions. They manufacture military products, including engine components and spare parts for aircraft and missiles.

The document research also confirms that most of the companies whose products end up in Russia are located in Baden-Württemberg, a region of Germany that has traditionally been a centre of mechanical engineering.

In addition, SWR notes in its research that some Turkish intermediaries involved in this process have direct links to Russia, and some of them were even founded by Russian entrepreneurs.

Despite attempts by individual companies to limit their exports to Russia, most of these efforts are futile. This is because it is extremely difficult, and in some cases impossible, to fully control the supply chain.
