Apple has big plans for the smart home: the company will expand its use of AI and open up its ecosystem to third-party gadgets

The topic of the "smart home" is becoming more and more relevant every year. Apple is one of the leaders in the development of relevant devices, but the products of competitors (Google, Amazon) are still more popular in the market.

The American company seeks to strengthen its position in this industry and has developed a programme that will help to take a leading position in this segment. Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman reported the main aspects of this plan.

Here's What We Know

Apple has assembled a new Home Ecosystem team and is making the Smart Home programme a top priority for the next few years.

According to Bloomberg, the company will abandon the concept of a closed ecosystem and, on the contrary, will make its devices as compatible as possible with appliances from other manufacturers - for this purpose, a new Matter protocol is being developed, which will allow you to control different gadgets.

The second pillar of Apple's new strategy will be the deep integration of AI into the smart home system. The company will actively use its Apple Intelligence platform, which will control all processes in the house, and will even be able to distinguish who is talking at the moment or who is looking at the screen. A key element of leveraging AI is the App Intents system, which allows the Siri assistant to more effectively control functions in apps.

Apple will also develop a special homeOS operating system based on tvOS, the operating system used in the Apple TV set-top box. It will be built into the smart display and will also increase control over the entire home infrastructure and help manage devices, switch media content and perform other actions.
