Another company has been affected by the crisis: Bandai Namco lays off employees and cancels several projects

The last three to four years have been tough for the video game industry: we've seen a lot of layoffs, game cancellations, and even studio closures, and Bandai Namco hasn't been spared. According to a Bloomberg report, the company is currently seeking to compensate for "weak demand" by laying off employees and cancelling projects in development.

Here's What We Know

However, Japanese laws do not allow companies to conduct mass layoffs, so Bandai Namco has chosen a "traditional Japanese strategy": it sends employees to a kind of "eviction room" where they are not given work, and eventually they will have to look for work in another company or stay at a reduced salary in the "room".

Reportedly, Bandai Namco has sent about 200 employees to this "room" since April this year, and about 100 employees have already left the company "voluntarily".

The crisis has also affected the development of some projects, including games based on the Naruto and One Piece franchises and a game that was being developed under a Nintendo licence.
