India returns 85 of its citizens recruited by the Russians into its army
A total of 85 Indian citizens who were recruited by the Russian military for the war against Ukraine have now been dismissed from the army.
Here's What We Know
Indian Foreign Minister Vikram Mishra said that the country is in "very close contact" with Russia regarding the Indians who were deceived into signing a contract with the Russian army and sent to fight in the war against Ukraine.
The release and repatriation of Indian nationals serving as support staff in Russian military units has become a key issue for New Delhi after at least nine Indians were killed in the Russian-Ukrainian war of aggression.
The minister also noted that 20 Indian citizens are still in the Russian army. It is expected that their release will be discussed during the BRICS summit to be held on 22 October in Kazan.
