Don't get your hopes up for a Killzone sequel: Guerrilla Games prefers to develop the Horizon franchise
Dutch studio Guerrilla Games is currently known as the creator of the Horizon franchise. However, the company started its creative journey with a series of sci-fi shooters Killzone. The last part of the series with the subtitle Shadow Fall was released in 2013 and after it the developers did not return to this universe, but gamers are still interested in the fate of Killzone.
Here's What We Know
Guerrilla Games art director Roy Postma gave an interview to the Washington Post in which he stated that the studio is "done with the Killzone series".
We're done working [on Killzone]. As a studio, we needed to update our palette, and that was a choice that was the opposite of Killzone. I think the issues that are addressed in the Horizon story are close to people of all ages. They're themes like finding family and friends or finding your place in the world.
Of course, Horizon action games are aimed at a larger audience than the grim shooters of Killzone, so the choice of Guerrilla Games is commercially justified.
Many gamers are sorry that the Killzone series is officially dead, but there is a possibility that Sony will hand over the development of new games in the franchise to one of its many studios, but let's be honest: the chances of that are slim to none.
