Russians planned to carry out a sabotage in Poland, and the Poles closed the Russian consulate instead
Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski accuses Russia of attempting to carry out a sabotage on Polish territory and announces the closure of the Russian Consulate General in Poznan.
Here's What We Know
He explained that he decided to close the consulate general because Russia is constantly waging a hybrid war and attempting sabotage on Polish territory.
"As the Minister of Foreign Affairs, it is my duty to react decisively. The first step is to close the Russian consulate in Poznan. We will not back down a single step. We are defending the Republic of Poland, we are defending Poles," Sikorski said.
In total, there were three Russian consulates general in Poland, but apart from Poznan, there were only Krakow and Gdansk.
Sikorski had already hinted at the closure of the Russian consulate earlier, when he announced a decision to counter Moscow's sabotage on Polish territory. Before that, on 21 October, he said that a Ukrainian detained in Poland under Russian leadership was supposed to set fire to a facility in Wroclaw.
"The arrested potential saboteur confessed that it was the Russian special services who ordered him to commit arson in Wroclaw. We have other similar arson attacks across Europe and are aware of Russia's further plans," he added.
