Turkish company Baykar plans to complete the construction of a UAV production plant in Ukraine by August 2025
The company's CEO, Haluk Bayraktar, noted that the plant is currently 80% ready. He also said that the company's capacity will allow it to produce about 120 drones a year.
Here's What We Know
The Turkish-made Baykar drones gained popularity around the world after the Ukrainian military used them against Russian troops. The company has become one of the most prolific exporters of drones worldwide, selling its TB2 light drones and Akinci heavy drones to 35 countries.
Baykar will invest $300 million over the next five years to develop a turboprop engine for the Akinci drone. However, the company currently uses Ukrainian-made engines in its UAVs. The company has also recently signed an agreement with the Ukrainian company Ivchenko-Progress on a separate joint development of a turbofan engine.
Baykar also expects to complete the construction of the Ukrainian plant next year.
"We have completed 80% of the construction, and machines are being ordered. The production date will be determined by the course of the war, but the facility will be ready in August 2025," Bayraktar said.
