YouTube has expanded testing of hyperlinks in comments on mobile devices

YouTube has begun testing hyperlinks in video comments more widely. The feature allows users to find more information on a particular topic or interest, although some may find it intrusive. The experiment was originally launched in 2023 on a limited scale, but is now available to more users.

Here's What We Know

Hyperlinks appear when a comment mentions topics that YouTube has a lot of information on. Such words or phrases become clickable and are marked with a blue colour and a magnifying glass icon. Clicking on the hyperlink takes the user to a new page, with the mini player continuing to play the video.

For now, users cannot add or edit these links, even if they are the authors of the comment. At the moment, the criteria by which words or phrases are turned into hyperlinks remains undefined, giving the process an element of randomness. The feature is only available on mobile devices for now and is in the testing phase. An official launch date has not yet been announced.
