Elon Musk's artificial intelligence Grok will be able to explain memes
Grok, an artificial intelligence developed by xAI, has recently received a new feature that allows it to understand images and explain jokes. This feature was introduced by Elon Musk, explaining that Grok can analyse memes. As an example, he showed how the model understands the situation depicted in one of the memes.
Here's What We Know
In the meme, the military observes physicists who seem to be lying motionless.
Grok tried to explain the joke, noting that the humour is a play on words related to the laws of gravity described by Isaac Newton. However, there was a mistake in the model's analysis: it failed to realise that the joke was aimed at the scientists' meticulousness, not at the laws of physics themselves.
This discovery confirms that, despite technological advances, artificial intelligence has yet to improve in understanding humour, one of the most complex human traits. Models like Grok need further training to better understand cultural contexts and nuances. Interestingly, another AI developer, Gemini, provided similar information and also failed to adequately understand the joke.
To use Grok's new features, a subscription to X Premium+ is required, which costs $16 per month.
