The new game from the author of Silent Hill and Siren surprised but didn't please: action horror Slitterhead gets low scores and is criticised

Already on the 8th of November will be the release of action-horror Slitterhead from the famous Japanese developer Keiichiro Toyama - one of the creators of the famous franchises Silent Hill and Siren.

From the moment the first trailers were shown, the game left mixed impressions, so many gamers and experts did not believe in the success of such a strange project.

The first critics' evaluations were published and they put everything in its place.

Here's What We Know

Slitterhead is not a classic horror, but rather an action game with thriller elements, in which players are expected to have dynamic battles with monsters. The combat system of the game is based on timely blocks, parries and dodges.

The protagonist of Slitterhead will be a metaphysical entity Hyoki, who can inhabit people and give them supernatural powers so that they can fight the creepy insect-like monsters. The creatures have learnt to disguise themselves and are gradually filling the city, and Hyoki has a blind hatred for them and tries her best to prevent them from spreading.

Critics reviewed Slitterhead and confirmed that the game turned out to be strange, ambiguous and outdated.

Many reviewers liked the plot and the general narrative, but because of the huge number of protracted and monotonous battles, the game quickly gets boring and ceases to be interesting. In addition, Slitterhead did not avoid the common problem of games of the early 2000s: at certain moments the gamer simply does not understand what they want from him and what actions should be taken to continue the story.

Yes, and the technical execution of the horror corresponds to that era.

A number of critics believe that there is something interesting in the game, but they doubt that the mass audience will appreciate Bokeh Game Studio's project.

As a result, the horror game received the following scores:

  • Opencritic - 66 points with 29% of recommendations;
  • Metacritic - from 60 to 68 points depending on the platform.

When We Can Expect It

Slitterhead will be released on 8 November on PC, PlayStation and Xbox Series.
