iPhone 14 Pro Max explodes while charging in China, woman suffers burns
In Shanxi, China, a woman suffered serious burns when her iPhone 14 Pro Max exploded while charging at night. The incident occurred at around 6:30am when the woman was sleeping and the sudden explosion woke her up.
Here's What We Know
When she rolled over, her hand touched the fire, and panic set in in the smoke-filled room.
Video footage of the aftermath showed extensive damage: the bed was burnt and the walls of the apartment were blackened by smoke. Initial investigations point to a possible battery failure as the cause of the explosion. The woman bought the phone in 2022, so the warranty was no longer valid, but she hopes to be compensated for her injuries and losses.
Apple has already responded to the incident and said it will launch an investigation into the cause of the explosion, regardless of whether the phone's warranty is in force. It is not yet known whether the battery was original or whether the phone had already been repaired before.
Experts recommend not leaving charged devices unattended and using only certified chargers to avoid similar situations in the future.
