About 3,000 drones with machine vision are already being produced in Ukraine, and the government will soon order another 10,000
The government has already ordered the first batch of 3,000 FPV drones equipped with machine vision and target acquisition technologies. The next tender for the supply of another 10,000 drones has already been launched through the Prozorro system.
Here's What We Know
The Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, Mykhailo Fedorov, said that more than 10 companies are already producing such drones in Ukraine. This allows the state to choose the best models on a competitive basis.
Machine vision technologies with auto-tracking and targeting solve two key problems of FPV drones at once. The first is that they reduce the effectiveness of enemy electronic warfare systems, as a drone with machine vision flies independently after fixing a target without the need to communicate with the operator. Secondly, such technologies reduce the dependence of the outcome of an attack on the operator's skill, as now it is not the human reaction that is responsible, but the algorithm.
"The war is moving to a new technological level, so we need to be fast, support entrepreneurs and predict the future," said Fedorov.
It is worth noting that the integration of machine vision into FPV drones has been actively discussed since the end of 2023. For a long time, this technology remained within the scope of separate experiments in both Ukraine and Russia.
