EU demands that Apple allow third-party styluses to use all iPadOS features

The Apple Pencil Pro has become a must-have for iPad Pro users because of its unique features, such as magnetic charging and hovering, that aren't available with third-party styluses. However, this may change due to new European Union regulations.

Here's What We Know

In recent years, the EU has forced Apple to make several changes, including the switch to the USB-C port for the iPhone 16. According to the new Digital Markets Act, all iPadOS functions must be accessible to third-party styluses, which has become the subject of attention of the European Commission.

Apple's recent report does not mention any third-party alternatives for the Apple Pencil, which may indicate a lack of compliance with the new requirements. Although there are already many compatible styluses on the market, Apple does not support generally accepted standards such as MPP 2.0.

The European Commission is currently reviewing Apple's report and will decide whether additional changes are needed to ensure that all styluses are accessible. This could dramatically change the situation on the iPad accessory market.
