Here's What We Know

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the deceased was a member of the International Legion in Ukraine. The Ministry expressed its condolences to his family, who do not wish to disclose the soldier's personal details.

The news of his death was reported on Saturday, and the Taiwanese mission in Poland confirmed the information through the International Legion. Other details have not yet been disclosed.

At the beginning of the invasion, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy invited foreigners to join the International Legion to fight side by side with the Ukrainian military against Russian aggression.

Taiwanese media identified the deceased as Wu Chung-tu, noting that he had returned to Ukraine in July after recovering from a leg injury. Before leaving, he told local journalists that his decision to continue the fight had the support of his family.

According to Taiwanese lawmaker Puma Shen, a member of the parliamentary defence committee, there are currently about five to six Taiwanese volunteers in Ukraine.

The first Taiwanese volunteer was killed on the battlefield in Ukraine in November 2022.
