Google updates requirements for Android TV smart TVs
Google has announced that it has lowered the minimum RAM requirements for Android TV devices.
Here's What We Know
Now 1GB of RAM is enough to certify a device, whereas previously the minimum requirements were 1.5GB for 1080p TVs and 2GB for 4K TVs. This change will allow manufacturers to produce more affordable devices, but the question remains how well the operating system will work with this amount of memory.
Android TV 14, the latest version of the operating system for TVs, is based on Android 14 but has its own features and requirements. Google is also working on optimisations to improve Android TV performance on devices with 1GB of RAM. These changes are aimed at expanding the global reach of Android TV, especially in emerging markets where device availability plays a key role.
