Russia suffers its worst month of casualties in Ukraine in three years - UK MoD

British Chief of Defence Staff Tony Radakin said on Sunday that Russian troops recently suffered their worst month of casualties since the start of the war with Ukraine.

According to him, in October, Russia lost an average of about 1,500 Russian soldiers (including those killed or wounded).

Russia does not disclose its war death toll, but Radakin said last month's casualties were the most significant since Moscow launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

"Russia is about to reach 700,000 people killed or wounded - the enormous pain and suffering that the Russian nation is forced to endure because of Putin's ambitions," he added.

He also acknowledged that Russia is making gains on some parts of the frontline, but said the losses amount to "tiny gains in land".

He said the Russian government spends more than 40 per cent of public spending on defence and security, putting a "huge burden" on the state.

The UK has been one of Ukraine's strongest supporters in its fight against Russian aggression, providing Kyiv with billions of pounds in military aid, as well as weapons and training.
