Updating this feature in Samsung smartphones could prevent the use of Android Auto

Samsung released an update for several Galaxy smartphones and tablets in November 2024 that includes an improved Auto Lock feature.

Here's What We Know

This feature disables the phone from communicating with devices connected via the USB Type-C port when set to "Maximum". This means that, with the exception of chargers, it becomes impossible to use USB accessories with your phone or tablet. As a result, wired Android Auto will not work when the phone is connected to the vehicle's infotainment system.

However, the "Maximum" setting is not enabled by default, so Android Auto functionality will not be automatically affected. Users are advised to check the Auto Lock settings under "Security and Privacy" and disable the maximum limits to avoid problems with Android Auto. Enabling the maximum limits of Autolocker is recommended when charging the device in public places to protect it from cyber-attacks.
