Don't piss Nintendo off: the Japanese company has sued the streamer and wants to sue him for a few million dollars
Times are tough for blogger Jesse Keighin, who goes by the nickname Every Game Guru. Nintendo's lawyers may sue him for several million dollars.
Here's What We Know
For several years, Every Game Guru has been streaming Nintendo games long before their official release without getting permission from the company.
He also regularly mocked Nintendo on his social media accounts, which attempted to block his Twitch and YouTube channels. He claimed that he had a million channels and "could stream games forever."
Moreover, Every Game Guru frequently promoted emulators that allow you to pirate Nintendo games and run them on your computer without having to buy a Switch console. The streamer urged his subscribers not to buy games, but to download them for free so as not to become "victims of capitalism."
After the streamer sent another mocking letter to Nintendo's office, the company ran out of patience and took the company to court.
The Japanese developer has documented at least ten instances of Keigin streaming unreleased games, including The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom and Mario & Luigi: Brothership, and the company has a total of fifty cases of infringement.
Nintendo is demanding $150,000 from Cagin "for each copyrighted product", and the amount of the claim is not entirely clear: if you count 10 spirated games, the fine would be $1.5 million, and if we're talking about each documented offence, Cagin would have to pay $7.5 million.
At the same time, Nintendo's lawyers could fine the blogger $2,500 "for each act of circumvention through the use of emulators" and another $2,500 for each instance where Kagin published links to emulators, repositories and keys.
