Qualcomm introduces new smart home chips with Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 support

Qualcomm has introduced two new chips for Internet of Things (IoT) devices used in smart home gadgets.

Flashback

The Internet of Things is a system of devices that are connected to the Internet and can exchange data. These can be smart thermostats, security cameras, locks, or other devices that make our lives more convenient and automated.

Here's What We Know

According to the company's latest report, revenues from IoT products in the fourth quarter totalled $1.7 billion, twice as much as in the automotive sector.

The new RISC-V-based QCC74xM chip is a programmable connectivity module that supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, Thread and Zigbee. It is ideal for smart home hubs and devices requiring high-speed connectivity and data exchange via Ethernet and CAN.

The second chip, QCC730M, is designed for battery-powered devices such as security cameras or smart locks. It features a 60-MHz processor and hardware acceleration for cryptographic security.

Both chips are available to developers as samples, with commercial availability expected in the first half of 2025.
