Tesla Cybertruck is being recalled again: this time it's an inverter problem

Tesla is once again facing a defect in its Cybertruck electric pickup truck. This time it's about an inverter malfunction that can cause a loss of power while driving. A total of 2,431 vehicles from the 2024 model year fall under the recall, and this time, Tesla won't be able to fix the situation through a software update.

According to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the vehicles affected by the recall are equipped with MOSFET transistors in the drive system inverters. If the transistors malfunction, the car can suddenly, without warning to the driver, lose traction. Only then will a warning appear on the screen that a malfunction has occurred and the car needs to stop.

Tesla launched an internal investigation after a customer complaint on 31 July. Already at the end of October, the company discovered an increased failure rate of inverters with MOSFET components and decided to announce a recall.

Manufacturer Cybertruck recorded five incidents of inverter failure. Fortunately, none of them resulted in accidents or injuries. A service campaign to replace the defective inverters will begin in the US on 9 December.

Sixth recall this year: what else is the problem?

This is the sixth Tesla Cybertruck recall since the start of 2024. Tesla has previously fixed problems with a "hovering" rear camera, a faulty accelerator pedal, a windscreen wiper motor and even decor elements falling off.
