Croatia will provide Ukraine with M-84 tanks, M-80 infantry fighting vehicles, as well as spare parts and ammunition worth €144.8 million.

This initiative, announced by Defence Minister Ivan Anušić, is part of an exchange agreement aimed at modernising the Croatian armed forces.

As part of the deal, Croatia will purchase Leopard 2A8 tanks from Germany at a discounted price, as part of a wider effort to modernise the country's military equipment.

This is an important step in our defence strategy," Anusic said at a government meeting.

The Croatian Ministry of Defence has announced that funding for the purchase of Leopard 2A8 tanks will be included in the state budget. Although the exact financial details were not disclosed, last month Anusic announced plans to purchase up to 50 Leopard 2A8s under the deal.

The M-84 tanks and M-80 infantry fighting vehicles that Croatia will provide to Ukraine were developed in the days of Yugoslavia. They are still in service in countries such as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Kuwait. The M-84 is a modernisation of the Soviet T-72 tank, while the M-80 is an infantry fighting vehicle produced in the 1980s.
