Apple will stop supporting iCloud backups for devices running iOS 8 and older starting 18 December 2024.
Here's What We Know
The company informed customers about this via email. After this date, no new backups will be created for such devices, and all existing backups will be deleted.
These changes will not affect data stored locally on the devices. Users can create backups manually on a Mac or Windows PC.
Apple recommends updating iOS to the highest available version to continue using iCloud to save data.
The company explains that the termination of support for the old backup system is associated with the transition to a new technology - CloudKit, which is used with iOS 9. This will better meet the modern requirements for Apple software.
