Microsoft will allow voice cloning for Teams meetings with translation into nine languages

Microsoft has announced a new feature for Teams - Interpreter, which will allow users to clone their voices during meetings and speak in different languages.

Here's What We Know

The feature, which will be available in early 2025, will allow translating into nine languages: English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Chinese, and Spanish. In addition, the translator will imitate the user's voice to make communication more natural and personalised.

Microsoft notes that the option does not store users' biometric data and allows you to disable voice simulation in the Teams settings. In addition, voice simulation will be activated only with the user's consent, which can be provided through notifications or settings.

The feature will be available only to Microsoft 365 subscribers.

The new technology raises some concerns about potential misuse, particularly in the context of fraud and the use of diphoning. Therefore, Microsoft promises additional security measures to minimise the risks.
