Here's What We Know
During his speech to the Verkhovna Rada, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy also said that Ukraine was increasing both its own defence production and deepening cooperation with international partners.
"Ukraine is doing its best to increase its own production of guns and artillery shells and production in cooperation with our partners. This year we have already produced more than 2.5 million mortar rounds and 60-155 mm artillery shells. We are increasing this production," he explained.
Lithuania and Ukraine have recently signed a cooperation agreement aimed at developing the defence industry, including the production of ammunition.
As part of the agreement, the parties undertake to support and implement projects for the production of weapons, ammunition and other key components for the defence industry, including cooperation in the production of explosives and ammunition.
Of particular importance is the agreement on the construction of an explosives plant in Lithuania, signed in October 2024 between the Lithuanian Ministry of Economy and Innovation and a Ukrainian defence company. Construction work is expected to begin next year.
The plant will specialise in the production of RDX (hexogen) explosives, which have advantages over traditional TNT due to faster detonation and greater explosive power.
