Failure is unacceptable: insider reveals Electronic Arts' record production and testing costs for the new Battlefield instalment
Electronic Arts representatives have repeatedly emphasised that the new Battlefield will be the most ambitious and large-scale project in the history of the franchise. But the memories of the failed Battlefield V and Battlefield 2042 releases do not allow gamers to take the company at its word.
However, it seems that the developers are determined not to allow another fiasco.
Here's What We Know
Authoritative insider Tom Henderson shared exclusive information that EA has allocated a record budget for testing Battlefield 6 (the name is conditional).
Testing is being done much more frequently than it was in the development of past parts of the series, it involves not only developers, but also selected players, and in the foreseeable future EA will launch a platform for large-scale open testing of the shooter.
Game designers carefully collect data and feedback from test participants, study them, identify flaws in the game and make edits to it.
The record-breaking budget concerns not only testing, but also production, as four studios - DICE, Motive, Criterion Games and Ripple Effect - are working on the new Battlefield, and the process is led by the former head of Respawn Entertainment Vince Zampella, one of the creators of the Call of Duty franchise.
