Google Pixel 6 may receive Android 16 in 2025
Google Pixel 6 smartphones were promised to be supported for 5 years: 3 years with Android updates and another 2 years with security patches only.
Here's What We Know
However, the recently published list of devices compatible with the first developer preview of Android 16 mentions the Pixel 6 series. This may indicate that a stable update to Android 16 will be available in 2025.
Android Police 's Mishal Rahman believes that Google could update the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro to Android 16 because their hardware platform (SoC) is the same as the Pixel 6a, and rolling out updates to the 6a could automatically cover the older models.
The move is also in line with Google's promise of 5 years of support. Android 17 is expected to be the final update for the Pixel 6, but there is no official confirmation yet.
