Samsung's CEO is the only Korean to rank among the top 100 most influential business leaders in the world

Lee Jae-yong, chairman of Samsung Electronics, became the only Korean to make Fortune magazine's list of the 100 most influential people in business.

Here's What We Know

He was ranked 85th, highlighting the global recognition of Samsung's potential. While South Korea is home to many global companies in various industries such as automotive, aviation, semiconductors, engineering and construction, only Samsung has such a significant international presence.

Fortune considered several factors when compiling the list, including business size, revenue potential, earnings growth, market value and overall financial strength. Innovation capability, global footprint and career trajectory were also considered. Though the publication named Samsung as the top chip maker, it is noted that the company lags behind competitors in developing high-speed memory.

The article also mentions Lee's 18-month prison sentence and his other legal troubles. Even so, Lee Jae-yong is in the company of big names like Tesla CEO Elon Musk, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang and other influential businessmen.
