Authoritative insider Tom Henderson continues to share exclusive information about Ubisoft projects.
This time he became aware of the development of a game similar to the popular Animal Crossing series, the peak of popularity of which occurred during the height of the coronavirus epidemic.
Here's What We Know
It turns out that Ubisoft Montreal (one of the main divisions of the company) has been working for 1.5 years on the game under the working title Alterra. It will be a project with extensive social features, and its concept is very similar to Animal Crossing. Players will be offered to settle on an island, where not only other gamers live, but also a variety of cute creatures that look like birds and animals, which in design resemble Funko Pop figures with big heads. Users will be able to set up their home, collect resources, interact with each other and build relationships with NPCs, as well as visit other islands.
Another feature of Alterra will be the fact that everything in the game is made up of voxels, and this will allow players to change locations, influence the landscape, destroy, build and modify buildings. Conceptually, this aspect of the game is reminiscent of Minecraft.
Creative director of Alterra is Patrick Redding, who was previously responsible for the development of WB Games Montréal's Gotham Knights action game, and Fabien Lhéraud, who has worked at Ubisoft for 24 years, has been appointed lead producer of the project.
